Description

Heinrich Mayer (Germany), as an architect and conservationist, had a chance to participate in the first phase of the Bhaktapur Development Project from 1975 to 1979. The aims of the project were the rescue of the magnificent buildings of this uniquely beautiful historic town and the restoration of many of the outstanding monuments. After the devastating earthquake of April 2015 during a review of old slides Meyer stumbled upon pictures of sculptures, which he had photographed after the restoration of these objects in a dismantled condition. These over 40 years old photos, unique in the sense that they cannot be photographed in the same setting again, induced him to this book project. The topic of this book is only the art of woodcarving, not architecture. This book is a book on Nepalese wood carving.
