Description

How Children Learn is a book where John Holt, foremost advocates for homeschooling, uses anecdotal observations that question assumptions about how children acquire knowledge and learning skills. Holt observed children and their learning styles within their natural environments of home, outings, and school. With the conclusion, the author sets out to demonstrate early learning to parents and teachers highlighting that learning is as natural as breathing. The ways children learn to talk, to read, to count and to reason, even before we start school, should make the adult trust the child's innate ability. He calls the readers to recognize how much children are afraid in school and argues that empowering students is the only viable solution.  He helps the readers see the child through the eyes of the child. Hence, the book helps an adult relearn that the process and difficulty of learning what adults feel is instinctive, for a child is still laborious.
